Numbness or tingling occurs when a nerve becomes impinged.

This leads to a decreased input from that nerve to the brain. This impingement can be experienced in the form of a “lighting” or “pins and needles” sensation, numbness in your fingers, hands or toes. The impingement must be removed for normal sensation to return. Some conditions that can cause numbness and tingling include slipped or herniated disc, carpal tunnel syndromel, and sciatica.
